North Salem Off to Slow Start on Soccer Pitch

Published on NORTH SALEM, N.Y.— The 2016 season is off and running for the North Salem girls soccer team. In their first four games, the Tigers have yet to register a win, but coach Bob Martin has been pleased with the way his team has battled so far.

“Things have not been going as planned so far this season,” Martin said. “Our schedule is very tough and it only gets harder as we continue into next week.”

After falling on the road in its first two games of the season to Lakeland and Mamaroneck, the Tigers played their first home game against Bronxville on Friday, Sept. 9.

Despite taking a lead into halftime, North Salem wasn’t able to hold the advantage in the second half as Bronxville came out strong and put two in the back of the net as the Tigers fell by a score of 2-1.

The first half went as planned for the Tigers as they took a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute as senior Allie Bratt scored on a corner kick served up by teammate Kara Rollins and kept that advantage into halftime.

“We played an even game with them in the first half,” Martin said. “We came out with a lot of energy. In the second half, they took control. We played more defensive than I would have liked.”

The Tigers tried to protect the lead in the second half as the Broncos kept the attack on, but to no avail. Bronxville tied the game 17 minutes into the second half and then took the lead with 15 minutes to go. North Salem tried desperately to tie the game up, but the Broncos were able to hold them off and secure the win.
